Flood.

Around 2 am, I heard it before I saw it. Heavy rain drops were not hitting pavement. Rain drops rather sounded like hitting a big well of water. I quickly got up off my bed and turned on all the lights before looking out the window. For the first time in a very long time, I got scared! I don't get scared easily but I did as soon as I saw floodwater almost touching my front door!

I didn't let panic envelope me so I gently woke my son, helped him put on his pants and jacket which I've folded the night before. I'm glad I slept in going out clothes and I've prepared most necessities in different bags so that we're ready to go anytime. I half-carried and dragged my 9-year old son while carrying a backpack and 2 carry bags on one hand as we moved out to safety. After making sure my son was alright, I went to fetch my beagle dog and 2 Siamese kittens to join us.

To cut the story short, we got through that night safe and dry. We thank God for that!

Garbage

Breakfast time, flood was knee high but I rode my bike to the bakery to buy pan de sal (Filipino bread roll) for me, my son and our pets. I managed my way around and on my way back, I witnessed a disgusting habit: a woman disposed her plastic bag and drinking straw right into the flood!

I was shocked, dismayed and in rage but I didn't bother to say anything right then unlike what I did before with that "vendor". Shame it was too late to snap photo of that disgusting habit!

Discipline and Love for Mother Earth

I wonder when will people ever learn?! We should have some discipline and a lot of love for mother earth! Most, if not all, parts of the Philippines are flooded every year. Some islands are probably really sinking as mentioned once in a television-magazine show because a lot of cities that were not usually flooded are now getting flooded. But there's one big factor that cause flood: stinking garbage!

The day before we moved out, around afternoon, I noticed that the water running through drainage is not flowing, it was like a well. I could only draw one conclusion for that: drainage is blocked by some or a lot of garbage.

Advocacy and Mission

This is my advocacy in life: help save Mother Earth! And my mission? Help spread the word about discipline towards garbage.

Thus, I encourage you all and beg you all to help spread the word about tender loving care for the mother earth.

"Sir, do you have garbage bin?"
