What's more disheartening news than this? A single Mom's hard-earned money that was for kids' schooling was stolen.

It was a beautiful sunny morning five days ago when this single Mom, (let's call her) Alice, went to queue at a money exchange corner at one of the largest US-franchised marts somewhere in Southern Luzon, full of locals and tourists. Nearby are a lot of private resorts or pools that can be rented out.

Exchange rate was low at the time, so Alice decided to exchange $400 only, not all of $700. After the transaction, she put the Philippine money and US dollars together into her front left pants pocket.

Then off she went for the book sale at the same mart, purchased 2 books and paid them using the money from her angry bird coin purse.

Later on, she touched her front left pants pocket but her hands felt nothing except for the slash right where the money was! Her heart dropped for disbelief that a few thousand Philippine pesos and $300 are gone in a flash!

Alice looked up teary eyed trying to recall the moments from the time she was queueing at the money exchange corner. Nonetheless, she can't think of anyone suspicious from that time until she discovered that her pants pocket was slashed. How could she not have known at all? Her pants pocket was slashed without scratching her skin. Oh what a master thief!

She turned to her right and saw the police station which was just right across the road. For a minute, reporting the incident seemed a smart idea but on the second thought, "What can police do to help? They wouldn't be able to help get the money back nor find the sneakthief. Hence there is no point".

The hard-earned money was stolen in an unbelievably, undetected and unfelt sneaky way.

Alice went home feeling defeated.

Rice in a Box for Lunch at The Medical City

CT Scan Findings:

Both kidneys show normal sizes and positions with no ecstasia evident. The right kidney measures 10 x 4.6 x 4 cm while the left kidney measures 10.7 x 4.7 x 4.6 cm. The nephograms and pyelograms are bilaterally comparable in intensity. No renal parenchymal lesios are detected. A 0.2 cm (96 HU) lithiasis is noted in the lower calyx of the left kidney. The perinephric are unremarkable. The ureters are not dilated.

After the CT scan 2 months ago and finding out about the Infected Epidermal Inclusion Cyst, I'm back at The Medical City (Ortigas) for a kidney ultrasound because of the slight irregularities seen from the CT scan (noted above) and also because of the not too uncomfortable pain I felt on the lower left abdomen for a few days now.

While waiting for the result, we (my son and I) went for lunch at the Food Court on the second floor which we just discovered today. I wish we knew about this place before because we've been eating and spending at Rockwell which is just walking distance from The Medical City, each time I have appointment with my doctors.

As soon as we saw the Rice in a Box, we ordered our usual favorites: mine is Seafood Bagoong and EJ's is Ham and Bacon. These Rice in a Box meals fill the tummy to full yet economical, very good for those who are in tight budget, like me. :D

Three more hours for the result so we'll be here till dinner time then.

The Secret: Choose To Have a Happier Life... Today!

We are all entirely free to choose whatever we want. The power is in your hands now, and you are the one who chooses how to use that power in your life.

You can choose:

To have a happier life today,
or put it off until tomorrow.

What feels better?

You choose.

It doesn't matter what your current situation is, deciding to have a happier life couldn't be difficult nor impossible. Only you, yourself, have the power to choose between:
- being miserable, whiny, envious, resentful
and
- being happier, optimistic, grateful.

As "The Secret" keep asking us, which situation feels better for you?

I've always been grateful and optimistic, disliked and ignored those who whine, envious and resentful. But happiness was something that, like most of us, is somehow elusive. Sort of like, "Now you see it, now you don't". Or rather, "feel".

I must admit that discovering "The Secret", meditating and trying to understand the meaning of life has helped me a lot to be able to step out of miserable state that I've been for a long time.

It took time for me to realize that I have to get up, kick myself in the rear and stop being miserable. Thank God I found "The Secret" which I read and reread a lot for inspiration each day. Since then, I decided, and felt it, that happiness should come from deep within me, not from someone else (not even from a partner) nor, as others define happiness, from earthly material possessions.

Now I'm content with my life because I chose to have a happier life!
